Let’s first get into what SEO keyword research is, and how to use keyword research tools to find keywords. Then, I’ll take you through some keyword research best practices, so you can rank your website at the top of search results.

What Is SEO For Health Coaches?

SEO or Search engine optimization, refers to optimizing your nutrition or fitness content on your website for search engines.

With the right SEO strategies and regular blogging, your site can rank better on search engines like Google, for keywords relevant to your wellness business.

Do Health Coaches Need Seo?

Every website needs SEO including health coaching websites. Blog post SEO can massively benefit nutritionists and fitness coaches — especially if you want new clients coming to you without doing any outreach.

The Importance Of Keywords In SEO for Health Coaching Websites

Doing SEO keyword research ensures you use targeted keywords to attract your ideal audience. If your site had a ton of blog posts on healthy food and weight loss coaching, people who are looking for information on those topics will end up on your site. That’s how SEO drives organic leads to your business.

Why Are Keywords Important?

SEO keyword research is important because it helps you understand what users are searching for and the content you need to provide to meet their needs. The keywords you choose help define your content strategy and what topics to include on your website.

Benefits Of Using Health-Related Keywords On Your Site

By using low-competition keywords in your health content, you can:

  • Attract more visitors to your site
  • Improve search engine rankings with informative content
  • Boost brand awareness by showing your expertise
  • Generate more leads for your coaching services

Attract More Visitors To Your Site (by doing SEO keyword research)

SEO keywords can bring people to your site in a few ways:

When The Keyword Is Part Of A Theme

Google will only rank your pages if they are relevant to the search query. If you have one blog post related to that query versus someone with a content cluster (a bunch of blog posts related to that query), who do you think will rank?

One of the best ways to build links and demonstrate your expertise on a topic is to build content clusters.

A content cluster consists of a pillar page, which is really long and contains the focus keyword of the content cluster. The pillar piece links out to blog posts that are part of the cluster.

These blog posts go in-depth into niche topics relevant to the focus keyword. These are usually articles or guides of at least 1000 words that each link back to the pillar page.

Scenario: If you are a dietitian and your pillar page title is “What is the keto diet?” you could have content clusters focusing on related areas such as:

  • Benefits of the keto diet
  • Does the keto diet kill cancer cells?
  • Keto for diabetics: what you need to know
  • X simple keto meals for beginners
  • Keto-friendly alternatives you must have!

The pillar page will link to all these blog posts and these posts will all link back to the pillar page.

When You Perform A Keyword Gap Analysis

Another thing to incorporate into your SEO keyword research strategy is to conduct a keyword gap analysis:

  1. First figure out who are some of your online competitors.
  2. Next, use keyword research software like SEMRush or Ahrefs to identify keywords that the competitors rank for but that you don’t.
  3. Create relevant content around these keywords or update old content and incorporate new keywords if it’s related.

Aim For The Featured Snippets

Getting the snippet means your blog post ranks at position zero on Google SERPs, this can lead to a 30% increase in website traffic.

The featured snippet provides a concise answer to a search query. For example, if someone types: ”Does the keto diet kill cancer cells?” into Google and you have that question as a heading with a short paragraph answering the question, your article is more likely to show up in search results compared to anyone else’s.

Above is what Google pulled up to answer that search query (the highlighted part specifically answers the query), but if you have a blog post with ”Does the keto diet kill cancer cells?” as a title and your whole article is dedicated to answering the query thoroughly, your post can win the snippet. This improves your brand authority and click-through rates.

Improve Search Engine Rankings With Informative Content

Firstly, your business needs a blog where you can regularly publish meaningful wellness content on your site. SEO only works if you are consistent with publishing content on your site. So having a blog is non-negotiable.

Blogging for your business can get you 55% more website visitors than sites without a blog. You essentially develop content that “answers” what people are searching for and establish yourself as an expert.

Boost Brand Awareness By Showing Your Expertise

While I was setting up my first website with Hostinger I ran into so many issues, and every time I searched for answers on Google there was one website that was always on the first page, and that was Wpbeginner. After constantly seeing the Wpbeginner website I came to remember their logo and brand colors.

Afterward, this became my go-to website for anything WordPress-related because I knew that blog helped me before. This is the power of SEO. By using SEO to appear in search results, people will see your brand as trustworthy and helpful.

Generate More Leads For Your Coaching Services

There are plenty of sites and magazines such as Shape, Healthline, or Women’s Health, looking for blog posts from health professionals such as nutritionists and fitness experts. Writing for major websites solidifies your presence and authority as an expert.

Writing for any of these sites will give you a byline and you can link it back to your website, this is called a backlink. By securing backlinks from credible websites, you end up enhancing your website’s credibility and ranking.

The backlink should go to your home page or a landing page that tells them a bit about you and offers them a freebie for their email address. Those that sign up should receive a series of emails nurturing them and converting them into loyal fans who engage repeatedly with your services.

5 Simple SEO Tips For Nutrition And Fitness Coaches

Get the most out of your SEO keyword research strategy by following these tips:

  • Find keywords for health and wellness coaching
  • Create an awesome website with great content
  • Know where to place your health and fitness keywords
  • Use analytics
  • Ensure your website Is mobile-friendly

Find Keywords For Health And Wellness Coaching

If you’re thinking “How do I find the best keywords for SEO?” Or “What are the top health-related keywords?” There is an easy way to find keywords related to health.

To plan your long-term SEO strategy, I suggest going to Google Trends and typing a health topic into the search bar to see the popularity over time, I would look at 3 months, and 1-year time frames. If the keyword popularity is steady or increasing then you have a winner. Next, put that keyword into a keyword research tool or Google and find more topics you could write about.

Scenario: A fitness coach wants to know which keywords relate to the terms fitness and nutrition.

1. Use Google Trends to identify the most searched fitness and nutrition topics by typing in keywords like ‘weight lifting’, ‘keto recipes’, ‘best fitness’, or anything related to fitness.

Notice on the graph that the popularity of “free easy keto recipes for beginners” fluctuates during the year, it mainly rises after holidays probably when people want to lose some weight.

Now if you look at the keyword “weight training” the graph is steady year-round – This is a good keyword to target because it’s an evergreen topic.

2. Now if I put this into the Google search bar I get low-competition keywords that are easier to rank for.

If you add the topic and press space you’ll get keyword suggestions based on what’s popular right now.

3. Check the People Also Ask section for low-competition keywords…click the down arrow to get more questions.

The low-competition keywords below can be used as blog titles:

  • How should a beginner start lifting weights?
  • How many days a week should a beginner lift weights?
  • How many kg should I lift [as a] beginner?
  • How many times should I lift weights as a beginner?

You can create blog posts around these keywords and start gaining organic visibility for your nutrition or fitness website.

Create An Awesome Website With Great Content

Your health coaching website is your little hub on the internet where you share your skills, and knowledge, connect with people and promote your services organically. Setting up a website is easy but you need to create content to have it appear in Google results.

Many health professionals start a blog for their websites and after a few posts they stop, this is either because they are too busy with clients or they did not see results with blogging. Blogging is a long-term commitment and if you’re serious about ranking organically and getting tons of traffic to your website, consider hiring a health copywriter to blog for you.

Know Where To Place Your Health And Fitness Keywords

Here are a few places to insert your keywords for maximum SEO benefits:

  • Make your title a long-tail keyword, preferably a question like “Are resistance bands as good as weights?”
  • Use keywords throughout your content, you can also bold the main keyword.
  • Include keywords in image alt texts, metatags, headings, and URLs

Use Analytics

Google Analytics shows you where your website traffic comes from. How does Google Analytics measure SEO? By looking at how many people visit your website organically from search engines, you can see how effective your SEO strategies are.

After interpreting your results it’s time to make adjustments to improve your web performance. So if you noticed a few of your pages or blog posts are doing really well, you can:

  • Optimize them further with keywords
  • Add sign-up forms
  • Add relevant CTAs
  • Encourage them to make a purchase
  • Create more content related to your high-performing content
  • Link to the new content from your high-performing content

Ensure Your Website Is Mobile-Friendly

There are a few things you can do to optimize your nutrition and fitness website for mobile, such as:

  • Compress images so they load faster
  • Adjust button size and placement using your website builder
  • Use a large and readable font
